The primary objective of 30/9-3 was to find hydrocarbon accumulations in\r\nthe Middle Jurassic Brent Group. Secondary objective was to find additional\r\nhydrocarbon accumulations in the Early Jurassic. Planned TD was ca 75 m below a\r\npossible intra Triassic marker to a depth of 4188 +/- 100 m. Well 30/9-3\r\ndiscovered oil in the Brent Group, but reached only 3113 m in the Drake\r\nFormation due to fish in the hole. For the same reason no wire line logs were\r\nrun below 1713.5 m.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eSidetrack well 30/9-3 A was drilled to\r\ncomplete the well programme.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eOperations and results\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eWell 30/9-3 A was kicked off on 26\r\nFebruary 1984, from a window from 1539 to 1562 m in the 13 3/8&quot; casing.\r\nThe well was drilled to TD at 4300 m (4008 m TVD) in the Late Triassic Lunde\r\nFormation using the semi-submersible installation Nortrym. No significant\r\nproblem was encountered in the operations. The well was drilled with\r\nInvermul/EZmul Oil Based Mud from kick-off to TD.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eThe Ness Formation (2853.5 - 3059 m, 2717.3\r\n- 2890 m TVD) was encountered at a horizontal distance of 538 m to the west of\r\nthe 30/9-3 well. The top of the formation had been subjected to erosion and\r\nlacked the sandstone units which were found in the upper part of the 30/9-3\r\nwell. The lithology was alternating sandstones, siltstones and shales with beds\r\nof coal.
