It was drilled on the southeast, downfaulted\r\nflank of the Statfjord structure, but on the upthrown block of the major,\r\neast-bounding Statfjord fault. The well was programmed to test in a higher\r\nstructural position, a Triassic sand, found water bearing in the 33/12-2 well,\r\nand to evaluate older, untested section beneath the sand. The Triassic sand in\r\n33/12-2, defined seismically by the &quot;R2&quot; horizon, had been tentatively\r\nidentified as Early Triassic. Secondary objectives were possible Jurassic\r\nreservoirs preserved within this downfaulted area east of the Statfjord Field.\r\nThe 33/12-4 well was a similar test on the east flank of the Statfjord feature.\r\nThis well found a thin Jurassic/Upper Triassic? sand with good porosity, which\r\ntested saltwater with minor amounts of oil.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eThe well is type well for the Lomvi and\r\nTeist formations.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eOperations and results\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eAppraisal well 33/12-5 was spudded with\r\nthe semi-submersible installation Norskald on 9 October 1975 and drilled to TD\r\nat 4574 m in the Triassic Lomvi Formation. The well was drilled water based\r\nwith a lignosulphonate mud from 485 m to TD.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eThe Tertiary and Late Cretaceous sections\r\nwere similar to other wells in the area, consisting predominantly of claystones\r\nand siltstones with minor sands. Along the southeast flank of the Statfjord\r\nfeature, erosion appears to have removed Jurassic sediments and a portion of\r\nthe Upper Triassic prior to draping of an indeterminate Jurassic sand,\r\ninterpreted as reworked Statfjord Formation sand, on the eroded Triassic\r\nsurface.
