The primary objective was to test a broad\r\nstructural closure where Jurassic Sands were postulated to be present along the\r\nnarrow intermediate zone between the Mandal High to the east and the Central\r\nGraben to the west.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eOperations and results\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eWildcat well 2/9-2 was spudded with the\r\nsemi-submersible installation Dyvi Alpha on 7 July 1979 and drilled to TD at 4367\r\nm in the Early Permian Rotliegend Group. The well was drilled without\r\nsignificant problems. However, four days were spent on retrieving the wear\r\nbushing prior to running the 13 3/8-inch casing. The well was drilled to 1513\r\nmeters using seawater, spotting high viscous gel pills occasionally while\r\ndrilling and upon completion of each hole interval. A weighted Gypsum-polymer\r\nmud was used below this depth to TD.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eThe Late Jurassic was encountered at 3653\r\nm, 16 m low to prognosis, confirming the structural interpretation. The Late\r\nJurassic section (3653-4293 m) consisted of 640 meters of predominantly black\r\nshale with no sands and was age-dated Middle Kimmeridgian-Portlandian. No\r\nJurassic rocks older than Middle Kimmeridgian were found. From 4290-4325 m, the\r\nsection was silty and sandy but impermeable. From 4325 m to TD lithology was\r\ninterpreted to be weathered volcanics of possibly Permian age, with caved\r\nKimmeridgian shales. Stratigraphic and petrophysical data pertinent to further\r\nevaluation of the Jurassic zone was secured through the acquisition of one conventional\r\ncore and an almost complete set of open hole logs.
