The\r\nobjective was to test hydrocarbons in the “Alpha structure” of the Sleipner\r\nfield. The target was Middle Jurassic sandstones.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eOperations and results\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eAppraisal well 15/9-3 was spudded with\r\nthe semi-submersible installation Ross Rig on 17 December 1978 and drilled to\r\nTD at 3796 m in the Triassic Skagerrak Formation. Many problems were\r\nencountered in the operations. When drilling the 26&quot; interval, the\r\ncirculation was lost several times. Pumping lost circulation material pills and\r\ncement into the formation solved this. The main problem arose when drilling the\r\n8 1/2” interval. \u00A0At 3375 m on top of Upper Jurassic, an abnormally pressured\r\nimpermeable zone was penetrated. Due to a series of technical problems that\r\nfollowed this incident, the well was finally plugged back and sidetracked from\r\n1213 m. Furthermore, the well was drilled in the wintertime and the cold was\r\nquite severe. Because of this, the hydraulic control system for the BOP stack\r\nfroze on one occasion. Functional problems with the BOP pods were experienced,\r\nconsequently, the time and cost estimates, were seriously exceeded. The well\r\nwas drilled with spud mud down to 402 m, with gel/lignosulphonate from 402 m to\r\n2680 m and with gel/lignosulphonate/lignite mud from 2680 m to TD.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eThe Middle Jurassic Vestland Group, top\r\nHugin Formation, was encountered at 3498 m. Well 15/9-3 proved very poor\r\nreservoir qualities in these strata and the well was hence not production\r\ntested.
