The objective was to test\r\nhydrocarbons in Middle Jurassic sandstones in the Beta structure of Sleipner\r\nVest. The well is Reference Well for the Heimdal and Våle formations.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eOperations and results\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eAppraisal well 15/9-5 was spudded with\r\nthe semi-submersible installation Norskald on 19 November 1979 and drilled to\r\nTD at 3946 m in the Triassic Skagerrak Formation. Operations met with many\r\nproblems, but the well objectives were fulfilled in the end. Excessive drag\r\nwhen pulling core barrel out of reservoir was a severe problem, and\r\nconsequently frequent reaming and circulating trips was needed. Having finished\r\nlogging in the 8 1/2” section, and just started testing the BOP stack, one of\r\nthe riser tension sheaves broke and fell down. Also several problems with the\r\nhydraulic BOP control system and the ball joint made nearly 12 days rig repair\r\nnecessary. After this delay the hole required extensive reaming before the 7”\r\nliner could be ran and the final 6” section could be drilled. Testing\r\noperations were hampered and delayed by bad weather and test equipment\r\nbreakdown. The well was drilled with spud mud down to 426 m and with\r\nseawater/lignosulphonate mud from 426 m to TD.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eThe well proved gas in sandstones of Middle\r\nJurassic age from top Hugin Formation at 3526 m down to a true gas/water\r\ncontact at 3662 m, based on logs and RFT samples. The Sleipner Formation was\r\nencountered at 3693 m. Logs and RFT pressure gradient proved Sleipner water\r\nfilled, and ca 3 bar overpressured compared to the Hugin Formation. Shows were\r\ndescribed on cores all through the hydrocarbon bearing reservoir. Abundant\r\nspots of fluorescence described on cuttings below ca 2000 ",
