It was the most northerly well drilled in\r\nNorwegian waters of the North Sea when it was drilled. Primary objectives of\r\n30/5-1 were Paleocene sands, thought to\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003ebe productive in the Frigg Field and the\r\nrecently discovered Heimdal Field, and potential sand or carbonate reservoirs\r\nin\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003ethe Early Cretaceous. The Late Cretaceous\r\nChalk found so prospective in the south was considered to be a secondary\r\nobjective in view of the possible northward shaling out of that formation.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eOperations and results\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eWildcat well 30/5-1 was spudded with the\r\nsemi-submersible installation Transworld 61on 17 May 1972 and drilled to TD at 4124\r\nm in the Early Cretaceous Åsgard Formation. The well was drilled with seawater\r\nand Lignosulphonate with additions of a total of 329 bbls of diesel oil.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eIn the main Paleocene objective a few\r\nthin water-bearing sand-streaks were present, and in the secondary Upper\r\nCretaceous objective, the Chalk Formation, as expected, had virtually shaled\r\nout. Between a depth of 3475 and 3604 m four streaks of limestone occur,\r\nranging in thickness from 1 - 3 m. The mud became gas cut while drilling the\r\ninterval. From petrophysical logs the limestone streaks appeared to be gas bearing\r\nwith porosities from 9 to 20% and water saturations in the range 20 - 60%. They\r\nwere the only intervals recognisable from logs containing hydrocarbons. The\r\ntotal thickness of these limestone stringers was insufficient to justify a\r\ntest.
