The well was drilled ca 400 m east of the UK boundary. The\r\nStatfjord Field is located in the Tampen Spur area of the North Sea. The\r\ndrilled structure is a west tilted fault block, forming part of a structural\r\ntrend extending across the U.K. - Norway boundary. The trapping mechanism for\r\nthe prospect was westerly dipping Jurassic beds bevelled at the Late Kimmerian\r\nregional unconformity. Cretaceous mudstones and marls provided the seal. The\r\nBrent Field is located on the southwestern U.K. portion of the same structural\r\ncomplex. The primary objective of the well was the Middle Jurassic sandstone\r\nsection known to be productive in the U.K. Brent Field. Secondary objectives\r\nwere Lias (Early Jurassic) and Triassic sands. The Paleocene section, which is\r\nstructurally high, was an additional objective although nearby wells did not\r\nhave reservoir rocks in this section.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eOperations and results\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eWell 33/12-1 was spudded with the semi-submersible\r\ninstallation Waage Drill I on 1 December 1973 and drilled to TD at 3060 m in\r\nthe Triassic Lunde Formation. After drilling to 466 m, TD in 26&quot; section,\r\n47 days were spent due to rough weather and problems with tensioners and riser.\r\nAfter this operations proceeded without significant technical problems, but the\r\nweather caused much interruptions and WOW.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eThere were oil shows with relatively high\r\ngas readings in the interbedded siltstones and sandstones in the Paleocene\r\nsection and throughout the Maastrichtian. The Brent Group was encountered at\r\n2409 m and was oil filled down to top Dunlin Group at 2570 m. The oil-water\r\ncontact was not present in this well.
