The primary objective\r\nof the well was to evaluate possible hydrocarbon accumulations in the Middle\r\nJurassic Brent sandstones. The secondary objectives were the Early Jurassic\r\nDunlin and Statfjord sandstones.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eOperations and results\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eWildcat well 34/10-17 was spudded with\r\nthe semi-submersible installation Deepsea Bergen on 22 February 1983 and\r\ndrilled to TD at 3466 m in the Early Jurassic Statfjord Formation. The well was\r\ndrilled down to 2687 m without special drilling problems. At 2687 m a heavy\r\nflow was observed after a drilling break. The well was shut in, and due to a\r\nplugged cement hose and kill line failsafe valve, about 200 hours were used to\r\ncirculate out the influx, stabilize, clean up and condition the hole. Further technical\r\nfailure and tight hole caused extensive time logging the 6&quot; section, and\r\nthe logging programme was reduced. The well was drilled with Seawater/gel spud\r\nmud down to 668 m and with seawater/gel/Lignosulphonate mud from 668 m to TD.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eThe Brent Group was encountered at 2685 m\r\nwith hydrocarbon bearing sandstones in the Tarbert and Ness Formations. FMT\r\npressures indicated a gas/oil contact at ca 2862 m, and an oil/water contact at\r\nca 2914 m in the lower part of the Ness Formation. The logs indicated a total oil\r\nand gas net pay of 122.5 m with average porosity 22.5% and average water\r\nsaturation 27%. Also the underlying water bearing Etive and Rannoch Formations of\r\nthe Brent Group had good reservoir quality sandstones. The Dunlin and Statfjord\r\nsandstones were water bearing.
