It was drilled on\r\nthe northern compartment of the same structure as the 34/8-1 well, a rotated\r\nfault block flanking the Viking Graben. This northern compartment (&quot;A-North&quot;)\r\nmight be separate from the southern by a sealing fault. The main objective of\r\nwell 34/8-2 was to prove hydrocarbons in the Stafjord Formation of the A-North compartment.\r\nThe planned TD was ca 50 m into the Triassic Lunde Formation.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eOperations and results\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eWildcat well 34/8-2 was spudded with the\r\nsemi-submersible installation Polar Pioneer on 4 October 1986 and drilled to TD\r\nat 3240 m in the Late Triassic Lunde Formation. The rig had to be moved and the\r\nwell was re-spudded twice before the 36&quot; hole could be finished. Otherwise\r\nno significant problems were encountered in the operations. The well was\r\ndrilled with seawater and hi-vis pills down to 1205 m and with KCl/polymer mud\r\nfrom 1205 m to TD. \u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eA unit assigned to the Late Jurassic\r\nDraupne Formation was penetrated from 2896 to 2912.5 m. Below Draupne a complete\r\nDunlin Group (Drake-Cook-Burton-Amundsen) was penetrated down to 3001 m where\r\nthe Statfjord Formation was encountered. The target Statfjord Formation was\r\nwater bearing, and the only hydrocarbon indications in the well were oil shows\r\non sandstone stringers in the Shetland Formation and weak fluorescence on\r\nDraupne Formation claystone \u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eOne core was taken in the well in the\r\nupper part of the Statfjord Formation from 3008 - 3020 m.
