The primary objectives were to\r\ntest possible hydrocarbon accumulations in the Paleocene Heimdal Formation and\r\nin Jurassic/Triassic sandstones. \u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eOperations and results\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eWildcat well 15/9-17 was spudded with the\r\nsemi-submersible installation West Vanguard and drilled to 3120 m in the\r\nTriassic Smith Bank Formation. A 12 1/4&quot; pilot hole was drilled down to\r\n519 m, but no indications of shallow gas was found. Bad weather caused some\r\ndelay. Bad weather and repeated BOP problems caused some down time. The well\r\nwas drilled with spud mud down to 500 m, with gypsum/polymer mud from 519 m to\r\n2616 m, with Lignosulphonate/Drispac mud from 2616 m to 2950 m, and with\r\nDrispac from 2950 m to TD.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eBoth the Heimdal Formation and the\r\nMesozoic sandstones contained gas and were tested. \u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eThe log evaluation indicated top of the\r\nhydrocarbon column in the Heimdal Formation at 2377.5 m. The logs indicated the\r\ngas/water contact at 2418.5 m, while pressure data gave a gas/water contact a\r\nbit shallower, at 2413 m. Weak and spotted shows were recorded on cored\r\nsandstones in the Heimdal Formation below the contact down to 2425 m, and from\r\n2442 to 2450 m.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eThe top of the hydrocarbon column in the\r\nMesozoic sandstones was at 2715 m (top Vestland Group). The column extended\r\ndown into the Triassic. No definite gas/water contact was found but could be as\r\ndeep as 2848 m.
