The well was drilled to\r\nevaluate the reservoir potential of the south eastern sector of the Field and\r\nto assist target future water injection wells. To enable a full evaluation of\r\nthe reservoir the lower Ula Formation and the underlying Triassic section were\r\npenetrated.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cb\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eOperations and results\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eAppraisal well 7/12-8 was spudded with\r\nthe semi-submersible installation Vildkat Explorer on 3 October 1988 and\r\ndrilled to TD at 3900 m in the Triassic Skagerrak Formation. Drilling down to\r\ntop reservoir proceeded without any significant problems.\u003c/span\u003e\u003cspan\r\nlang=EN-GB\u003e \u003c/span\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-US\u003eThe well was drilled with seawater and\r\nbentonite down to 167 m, with seawater/bentonite/spercell/CMC EHV mud from 167\r\nto 955 m, with KCl/polymer mud from 955 m to 3721 m, and with oil based Safemul\r\nmud from 3721 m to TD.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eTop Mandal Formation was encountered at\r\n3640 m, top Farsund Formation at 3663 m, and top Ula Formation at 3718 m, 78 m\r\nhigher than prognosed. RFT measurements showed a pressure barrier at ca 3770 m.\r\nThere was oil down to the barrier and water below. An effective oil/water\r\ncontact was difficult to identify. The saturation profile across interval 3770\r\n- 3796 is interpreted as water influx from the aquifer following production\r\nfrom the field since 1986. The RFT results supported that the Ula reservoir at\r\nthe 7/12-8 location was depleted and in pressure communication with the crestal\r\nproducing part of the Ula Field. There were no signs of hydrocarbons in the underlying\r\nTriassic.\u003c/span\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp class=MsoBodyText\u003e\u003cspan lang=EN-GB\u003eOne core was cut in the Ula Formation\r\nfrom 3724.0 to 3750.5 m.
