Utsira High forms the southern part of\r\nwestern rim of the Horda Platform and lies between the South Viking Graben to\r\nthe west and Stord Basin to the east. \u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe main objectives for the well 25/6-2\r\nwere to test the hydrocarbon potential of the Paleocene Ty Formation in the\r\nDelta and Beta prospects and the extension of the Middle Jurassic Vestland Group\r\ndiscovery in well 25/6-1. The Ty Formation prospects were anticipated to\r\ncomprise of clastic, gravity fan deposits.\u00A0 The well location was in a position\r\nthat would test both a mapped simple closure at this level and a larger\r\nstratigraphic trap interpreted to be characterised by sands pinching out to the\r\nsouth.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eOperations and results\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe well 25/6-2 was spudded with the\r\nsemi-submersible installation Treasure Saga the 26 April 1992 and drilled to TD\r\nat 2392 m in the Early Jurassic Drake formation. The well was drilled with\r\nseawater and gel down to 1046 m and with KCl mud from 1046 m to TD.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe Nordland, Hordaland and Rogaland\r\nGroups consisted mainly of clays and claystones with minor sandstones. The\r\nCromer Knoll Group consisted of limestone interbedded with claystones and\r\nmarls, while the Viking Group consisted mainly of claystones as expected. The\r\ntops prognosed for the well were within the expected margin of error for the\r\nTop Balder and Top Shetland seismic markers.\u00A0 However, the depths prognosed for\r\nthe Top Ty Formation, base Cretaceous, top Vestland, and top Dunlin markers were\r\noff by as much as 65m.\u00A0 Therefore, the top of the Vestland Group was encountered 39.5 m\r\nbelow the oil water contact in the Vestland discovery at 25/6-1. No hydrocarbons\r\nwere encountered in any of the prospective intervals, and only one show was\r\ndescribed from a single cutting sample recovered from the Vestland Group.
