The underlying Triassic grey/red beds provided a\r\nsecondary target.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eOperations and results\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eExploration well\r\n6407/8-2 was spudded with the semi-submersible installation &quot;Dyvi\r\nStena&quot; on 19 October 1994 and drilled to TD at 1950 m in the Triassic Grey\r\nBeds. The well was drilled with seawater and hi-vis pills down to 1140 m, with\r\nKCl polymer mud from 1140 m to 1733 m, and with a sized salt solids-free system\r\nfrom 1733 m to TD in the final 6&quot; open hole. \u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe top of the Tau\r\nprospect\u00A0 reservoir section came in at\r\n1733 m and the well confirmed oil and gas charge in the prospect. The reservoir\r\nquality in the Åre Formation was better than expected at this location. The\r\nhydrocarbon column encountered was close to the predicted minimum success case\r\nmodel. The drilling location was well chosen in revealing the extent of the\r\ndifferent hydrocarbon phases in the structure. Further down-dip the gas cap\r\ncould have been missed. The proportion of gas to oil, however, currently\r\nrenders the discovery sub-commercial.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eDiscrepancies\r\nbetween actual and prognosed depths are interpreted as reflecting uncertainty\r\nin the velocity field. The failure of the larger success outcomes is attributed\r\nto trap failure, either through fault-seal failure or breaching by thief Ile\r\nsands in the hanging wall.\u00A0 It is clear\r\nthat for this small- scale accumulation, distinguishing hydrocarbon phases is\r\nbelow seismic resolution.\u00A0 However, with\r\nwireline logs to calibrate seismic signature through gas, oil and water bearing\r\nreservoir sections the database for exploring adjacent prospects is excellent. \u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eThree cores were cut\r\nin the 6&quot; section from 1736 m to 1773 m in the Åre Formation.
