The objective\r\nwas to test the hydrocarbon potential of the Farsund Formation sandstones in\r\nthe &quot;Spekkhugger&quot; prospect, a stratigraphic trap.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eOperations and results\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eWildcat well 3/7-6 was spudded with the\r\nsemi-submersible installation Mærsk Jutlander on 8 October 1996 and drilled to\r\nTD at 4120 m in the Late Jurassic Haugesund Formation. The hole was drilled\r\nwith less than 2 deg deviation down to 3370 m where deviation suddenly\r\nincreased to around 10 deg with a maximum of 13.3 deg at 3750 m. Otherwise the\r\nwell was drilled without significant technical problems. The mud used was\r\nseawater/spud mud down to 1105 m, Barasilc (sodium silicate) mud from 1105 m to\r\n3425 m, and KCl/polymer mud from 3425 m to TD.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe well encountered the top Jurassic,\r\nFarsund Formation at 3439 m and the underlying Haugesund Formation at 4050 m.\r\nFour units of sandstones with good porosities were encountered between 3469 and\r\n4050 m in the Farsund Formation. Weak to moderate hydrocarbon shows were\r\nobserved in ditch cuttings and on core samples between 3621 and 4030 m, but the\r\nformations were evaluated as water bearing.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eA 10.4 metre spot core was recovered from\r\n3640 to 3650.44 m. Three segregated MDT samples were taken at 3478 m. They\r\ncontained water with traces of gas.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eThe well was plugged and permanently\r\nabandoned on 30 November 1996 as a dry hole with shows.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cb\u003eTesting\u003c/b\u003e\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\u003cp\u003eNo drill stem test was performed.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\r\n\r\n",
